Afro Pop Sensation Aubrey Qwana’s highly anticipated album, MKABAYI THE ALBUM is finally available for download.
The project titled ‘MKABAYI’ comes as a tribute to the stars late mother who was named ‘Mkabayi ka Mbhabhama’, after the well known Zulu nations Princess ‘Mkabayi ka Jama’ who many know played a vital role in the establishment of the clan and the part of history they greatly influenced and contributed to as a Zulu nation. Aubrey says that his mother acted as the strongest figure in his life and was true to her name. Despite all the hardships faced together with her son, she made a lot of sacrifices for him & showed him love the best ways she knew how, which Aubrey continues to pass on that same love to his daughter today.
Aubrey’s sound has always come across as unique & possesses a specialty in being a sound that’s unheard of when listening to it for the first time. ‘MKABAYI THE ALBUM’ is what Aubrey calls his most personal body of work as he remained true to his artistry and style his been best known for with a few added elements here and there.
Qwana describes his sound as an infusion of traditional African music and contemporary pop sensations. Part of what has kept Aubrey Qwana ahead when it comes to his music is his ability to collaborate with artists of different genres, cultures and sounds and really being able to bring together the most unlikely sounds into a multi platinum seller.
For his album, Aubrey Qwana has worked alongside artists he felt inspired him musically and also contributed to his craft creatively. Many of whom are renowned artists and great industry friends of the pop star. Makhadzi, Sjava & Mnqobi Yazo are just some the names that contributed to the album & many other names fans will be familiar with form part of the perfectly curated music ensemble.

Aubrey Qwana and Makhadzi to Drop ‘Ngibambe’

Johannesburg- Love and First Sight as Aubrey Qwana approaches a beautiful lady, promising her the world, declare his love and adding that his heart will be complete if she says yes. He wraps the month of March with the trending anthem fused with his own lyrics and an Afro-pop twist. This is Aubrey Qwana second single for 2023 but his first ever collaboration with Award winning musician Makhadzi. The new single titled ‘Ngibambe’ set to be dropped this Thursday 30 March 2023.
‘Ngibambe’ is a Zulu word meaning “Hold” In the song, first verse Qwana sings declare his love, adding that his heart will be complete if she says yes and he ask the beautiful partner to hold him. In the second verse Aubrey says she’s the one, she’s the chosen one, can she just say yes and hold him as he sang in Zulu.
Makhadzi comes in the third verse with her smooth sailing voice signing in Venda or Tshivenda language, saying when I see you hold me, I will forget my problems, I will forget my crying, she adds come my love, come my love.
‘I am so excited about this collaboration, I recorded the song last year December during the festival season and I needed someone to elevate the song and give it fresh flavor, thought of Makhadzi and wanted some culture clash imagine Zulu and Venda in one song. I knew it was gonna be a hit song, we linked up with Makhadzi, we played her the song and same time she freestyled and magic happened’ says Aubrey with excitement
'Ngibambe' follows Aubrey Qwana’s ‘Ngthathe’ which is topping charts, Makhadzi and Aubrey shared a snip video in studio on social media and it started to go viral on Tiktok.
